A 29-year-old man, Matthew Owolabi, was on Friday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing equipment worth N10.1 million from the Lekki Conservation Centre.

Owolabi, whose residential address was not given, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

Daily Times gathered that he charged alongside one Umar Sulaimon, who is already on trial, after being arraigned on Aug. 19 for the same offences.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Aug. 15, at 10:22p.m., at the Lekki Conversation Centre in Lagos State.

He said that the defendant stole 77 pieces of aluminum panels worth N10 million and two inverter batteries worth N126,000.

According to Osuji, the offences contravene Sections 287 (5) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge, and was granted bail in the sum of N2 million.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. N. Ojuromi, also directed the defendant to provide two sureties in like sum.

Ojuromi ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She also ordered that the sureties must be above 40 years and reside in Lagos State.

The case was adjourned until Sept. 10 for mention.
